Recreation Classes

These classes learn 1-2 dances, which will be performed during the season. Students will learn basic skills, techniques, and creative movement, as well as build confidence through performing. These are not typically competing classes, but exceptions may be made with notice.

Pre-Team

Ages: 5-7 yrs.
Class time: 1 hour
Description: These classes are technically based and focus on ballet and jazz techniques, as well as rhythm patterns, performance quality, and creative movement. Pre-Team C will also incorporate tap.  Students will learn two dances and perform 3-4 times during the season.
Dress Code: Comfortable clothing in which the body can easily move, such as leotards, tights, leggings, spandex shorts, etc. No jeans, baggy pants/shirts, or other clothing that restricts movement. No jewelry. Tan half-sole shoes needed for class and performances (as well as black tap shoes for Pre-Team B) can be purchased at DTA.

Combo Tech

Ages: 8+ yrs.
Class time: 1 hour
Description: These classes focus on technical elements of different dance styles including ballet, jazz, and lyrical. Students will perform 2-3 times during the season.
Dress Code: Comfortable clothing in which the body can easily move, such as leotards, tights, leggings, spandex shorts, etc. No jeans, baggy pants/shirts, or other clothing that restricts movement. No jewelry. Tan half-soles needed for class and performances can be purchased at DTA.

Hip-Hop

Ages: 5+ yrs.
Class time: 45 minutes
Description: Students will learn basic body awareness, isolations, and focus on different forms of urban and street dance. These skills will be improved upon and practiced in exercise, across the floor, combinations, and choreography. Classes will perform 2-3 times during the season.
Dress Code: Comfortable clothing in which the body can easily move. No jeans, overly baggy pants/shirts, or other clothing that restricts movement. Athletic footwear should be worn. Avoid shoes that are wide or heavy and restrict movement.
